I am starting a new series called Living for Jesus. The four gospels tell what Jesus did and the various teachings passed on to the apostles. The Book of Acts picks up and provides a limited rundown of the early church, but what is lacking is a clear-cut doctrine laid out in chronological order.
In order to live for Jesus, it is necessary to know the fundamentals of what makes a person a Christian. How does one know they have the eternal life spoken by Jesus? This is but one of many subjects covered throughout the New Testament.
Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to the church. This divine duo has been working together since the God-man ascended a couple thousand years ago. Jesus is the redeemer, but it is the role of the Holy Spirit to draw people to the Messiah and convict them over their sins.
The Gospel plan predates humanity and even the angels. No one was privy to the details except for the Godhead. Jesus would do His part and then He would be replaced by the Holy Spirit on earth. That is why the God-man stated He had to leave, so the next part of the salvation plan could be put into effect.
Unlike when Jesus walked on the earth, the Holy Spirit is omnipresent. The third person of the Godhead is everywhere at once. Even more remarkable, He is able to live concurrently inside each Christian.
The apostles listened to the teachings of Jesus. There was even more that the Son of God wanted to impart, but they were not ready because they of the pernicious Kabbalistic doctrine taught in the rabbinic synagogue system.
Jesus referred to the third person of the Godhead as the “Spirit of truth” who would reveal what the church needed to know. The Holy Spirit would prove to be the best friend of the early church and that trend has continued down through the ages.
Sometimes it took a divine intervention to break down the prejudicial barriers erected by the Talmud against the Gentiles. It must have been frustrating for Jesus, trying to get His church of redeemed sinners to line up with the program of the Godhead.
Yet the duo of Jesus and Holy Spirit successfully launched salvation for mankind and steered the early church to success.
Print out the sermon outline and let’s examine the Scriptures together Sunday morning at 9:00 AM PST.
Yours in Christ,
Pastor John S. Torell
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14
