Moscow Just Gave Venezuela Air Defenses, Not Ruling Out Strike Missiles: Russian Official

From The TMZ Newsletter
A high-ranking Russian lawmaker claims his government recently sent Venezuela air defense systems and could provide ballistic and cruise missiles in the future. The comments, to an official Russian media outlet, are a response to the ongoing buildup of U.S. forces in the region aimed at narco-traffickers and Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro. Bear in mind Venezuela is a massive country with varied terrain. Borders with Brazil, Columbia, and the Gulf are well over 3000 miles. Boots on the ground would be a disaster. Trump recently announced the commencement of a new round covert operations. Typically the US never announces these types operations in advance.
With a powerful carrier stike group in place Trump is mulling his military options in Venezuela. So far he has limited the United States to striking suspected drug boats and killing the occupants extrajudically. The Coast Guard has arrest powers and these small boats are completely outclassed and outgunned by a large US naval presence in the region.
Trump earlier told us that the president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, has offered a number of concessions but they were turned down. This reminds me of Susan Lindauer’s claims about Saddam Hussein before the Second Gulf War. She claims he offered massive consessions if the US does not attack. See this video:
These leaders both know (and knew) the destructive power of the US. The US has been trying to put Venezuela back into its camp for decades after Hugo Chavez took control and nationalized Western assets. Venezuela sits on the largest pool of oil on the planet.
Chavez took these assets and started distributing the benefits to the masses and giving countries in the region large sums of money with the hope of recreating a Bolivarian Revolution built on socialism. This gave many people a temporary relief from poverty.
As the Marxists took over what they call “the means of production.” They drove out all the seasoned oil workers and replaced them with their Marxist friends. They took over factories and companies in the same manner. As usual, these business started to fail and goods became scare and expensive. After the death of Chavez Venezuela went into a death spiral becoming the most dangerous country in the region if not the world.
It is in this backdrop the US establishment seeks to force Maduro out and regain some semblence of control. Their past and current selections for the oppostion are hideous. The current support for either side is difficult to ascertain from so far away. We do not know who to trust. The region has been flooded with Venuzuelans fleeing the poverty created by Marxism. Those people voted with their feet.
Hopefully the US will not fall into the trap of massive military operations inside Venezuela and they will decide to conduct some sort of very limited operation similar to what they did against Iran’s nuclear program to bring the end of Marxism in Venuzuela.
