The Ntoyo Massacre: Mourning Turned Into Massacre in Eastern Congo

On the night of September 8, 2025, the small village of Ntoyo in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo, became the scene of yet another unspeakable atrocity. What was meant to be a night of communal mourning, a funeral wake, turned into one of the bloodiest massacres the region has seen this year.

According to local officials and Christian groups, ADF-affiliated militants stormed the gathering at around 9:00 p.m., setting off a wave of violence. Armed with rifles, machetes, and torches, the attackers cut down men, women, and children alike. Homes were set ablaze, motorcycles and vehicles torched, and some victims were reportedly burned alive.
