God's Mercy Over America

There were sweeping changes that occurred on the inauguration day of President Joe Biden. Since that time, we have witnessed his administration do one wacky thing after another in an attempt to undo the fabric of our nation by allowing unlimited immigration, refusing to prosecute criminals and embracing a globalist agenda. Why would God allow such a leadership to run our country. Has America been judged by God?

It has been said that the past controls the future and those that don’t learn from the mistakes of history are doomed to repeat them. God called Abraham to become part of something special. The Lord is the one that built the Hebrew nation from a Chaldean family, and while God loved Abraham’s descendants, they were warned they would lose the Promised Land if they walked away from Him.¹

Eventually the sins of the ten northern tribes became so blatant and the people were unrepentant that that God removed them in 727 B.C. The tribes of Judah and Benjamin followed soon thereafter in 587 B.C. The prophet Jeremiah stated the possession of the Promised Land had been revoked once the Jews crossed the proverbial line in the sand.²

THE SINS OF OUR NATION
God has sent prophets to the American people for the last 300 years. Just like it was with Israel, America has experienced revival, then came a period of sin and judgment, more repentance, and a return to sin.³ The problem is that God’s messengers have been mocked.⁴

The sin of slavery was not addressed by the founding fathers when our government was formed. The Declaration of Independence in 1776 spoke of all men being equal, but this did not include black men. The Three-Fifths Compromise in 1787 was a Constitutional agreement between the northern and southern states that did nothing to address the issue.

The issue of states’ rights came to a head with the Civil War in 1861 and 620,000 soldiers paid with their lives to atone for the sins of their forefathers. The Fifteenth Amendment granted black men the right to vote, but it would take the civil rights movement of the 1960s to end the racial segregation and discrimination that still existed.

The 1920s were marked by a rise in technology, economic prosperity, and a break with tradition when it came to culture. Evangelist Billy Sunday led the fight against alcohol consumption and Congress passed the Eighteenth Amendment in 1917, ratified by the states in 1919, and later repealed in 1933. The stock market saw an almost decade long run that led to excessive speculation.

The concept of buying stock on margin became immensely popular and led to wealth and success. When politicians started to work to end prohibition, God responded with the Great Depression that lasted from 1929 to 1941. The Dow Jones did not return to its previous high until 1954, a period of twenty-five years.

Roe v. Wade was passed in 1973 under the auspice of reproductive rights that made it legal to murder unborn babies. The Nazi holocaust is supposed to have taken the lives of six million Jews when Adolf Hitler committed murder on an unprecedented scale. Yet that is nothing compared to the 63.5 million babies that have been murdered in this country under the guise of “choice.”

Christians have been forced to accept the vocal and militant homosexuals as a part of society. In 2000, California adopted Proposition 22, which as a legislative statute, prohibited recognition or licensing of same-sex marriages in the state. It was invalidated in the courts and Proposition 8 in 2008 as a state constitutional amendment would go on to specify “only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”

It too was overturned, ironically by a homosexual judge. A lot of people – heterosexual/homosexual – are promiscuous, engaging in sexual encounters in which there is no expectation of a further relationship. There is also cohabitation or common law marriages whereby a couple has an intimate relationship outside of marriage. Transgenderism is just another form of homosexuality and involves a confused man/woman who thinks their gender identity is something different from what they were labeled at birth. The fact that their chromosomes pairings of XY and XX biologically determine whether they will be male or female is not considered science and now feelings reign over facts.

The woke theology states that Christians must love sinners and accept them into churches. Gone is the teaching of turning from sin. Love the sinners and their sins in the new mantra. God will sort it out. This doctrine is in stark contrast to what the apostle Paul stated about dealing with sin in the church.
