ALLIANCE WITH LUCIFER
The Godhead angrily stopped the virtual time run after the death of Jehoshaphat. They had rebuked him twice, and in each instance, he refused to repent and acknowledge that he was wrong.
Jehoshaphat for political reasons established an alliance with King Ahab of Israel when he allowed his son, Jehoram, to marry Ahab and Jezebel’s daughter, Athaliah. 2 Chronicles 18:1; 21:5-6
Since the Godhead can read the thoughts of humanity, they knew Jehoshaphat’s reasoning behind this alliance. He felt there would be no more wars between Israel and Judah if the two royal families were bonded together by marriage. Jehoshaphat ignored Jesus’ warning about uniting with pagan worshipers and the Godhead watched the royal wedding of Jehoram and Athaliah in disgust. Deuteronomy 7:1-5
Jezebel was born in Tyre to King Ethbaal. She was raised as a princess and priestess of the Zidonian pagan religion. She turned Ahab into a hardcore Baal worshiper and raised Athaliah in rebellion to the Lord. 1 Kings 16:31-33; Deuteronomy 7:1-5
By the time Jehoram was 32, he was ready to ascend to Judah’s throne. Athaliah used sexual debauchery to seduce Jehoram into Baal worship. As a result, he was possessed with demons and addicted to the deviation associated with the worship of this idol.
Athaliah instructed Jehoram to murder his brothers when he became king in order to secure the throne for their children.
The Godhead wondered if Judah was headed for disaster with Lucifer having achieved control over Jehoram. The Devil would try to destroy the worship of the real God in Judah and hijack the bloodline of Jesus.
Remaining true to their commitment at the trial of Lucifer and his fallen angels, they resumed the virtual time run, but would exercise the right to shut down the life of Jehoram if he did not repent. They were not happy when the time run resumed.
FUNERAL AND MURDER
King Jehoshaphat’s funeral saw his family and various dignitaries gathered in Jerusalem. The king’s seven sons were grown men with families.
Jehoram had been designated the heir to the throne and the other sons received lavish gifts. There was peace between the brothers as they mourned for their father.
But Jehoram was secretly smiling because the time had finally come to enact the underhanded plans to stamp out any competition. To that end, he recruited political leaders and support from the military.
Jehoshaphat bestowed each son with silver and gold in abundance, along with a city to govern, but the kingdom was given to Jehoram. 2 Chronicles 21:1-3
Once Jehoram was coronated, he ordered death squads to execute his six brothers and any other noble of Judah that opposed his authority. verses 4-5
The worship of God was suspended and the high places for Baal worship were resurrected. verses 6, 11
The reintroduction of idolatry brought war to Judah. However, the Godhead did not allow the complete destruction of the southern kingdom in order to preserve it for the Messianic bloodline. verses 7-10
THE PROPHET ELIJAH
The prophet Elijah in the northern kingdom sent a letter of judgment to Jehoram. It did not include an offer to repent. It was simply a final verdict for the king of Judah. verses 11-15
GOOD TIMES END
Jesus removed the protection over Judah, allowing the Philistines and Arabians to attack and capture Jerusalem. Jehoram and Athaliah escaped, but his other wives and all children were killed with the exception of his youngest son, Jehoash. verses 16-17
THE DEATH BLOW
Six years later the Godhead had enough of Jehoram and an angel struck him with an incurable disease that caused a lot of pain. Jehoram ordered the murder of his brothers without cause since they never threatened his reign. Now he had to live with a disease for two painful years until the Godhead decreed his time on earth was over. verses 18-19
SUMMARY
Jehoram never accomplished anything of eternal value. As a young man, he could have told his father that he refused to marry a priestess of Baal. But he went along with the plan and sealed his fate.
The people of Jerusalem despised him and there was no grief over his death whereas Lucifer rejoiced that he had been able to derail the work of God and bring destruction upon Judah.
Unless the Godhead intervened, the southern kingdom would bear the same fate as its northern counterpart. Mark 8:34-38
