Water baptism is not tied to salvation, nor does it wash away sin. It is not a purification process as only the blood of Jesus is capable of cleansing sin.
Getting dunked under water baptizes a person into Christ, not into a church. Church membership has nothing to do with the matter, nor will baptism it keep you from sinning. The tradition of sprinkling babies has no validity because they are clueless, but parents will know when their children are ready, because accepting Christ always precedes water baptism.
We must not consider baptism a mere tradition of Christianity. The act serves to demonstrate the spiritual reality of what Jesus accomplished on the cross and His subsequent resurrection.
Baptism by immersion may have started with John the Baptist – hence the name – but it culminated with Jesus. In following the God-man’s example, we signify our love by obeying His commandment. Let’s follow Jesus and do it right.
