A DISCUSSION IN THE THRONE ROOM
Sometime in eternity past, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit discussed their desire to create a universe where all creatures resided by their own free will and would choose to love the Godhead in return. In order for these creatures to have a free will, this venture must be carried out in two stages:
1. Create a new universe where these creatures could exercise their free will.
2. Bring those who made a choice to serve God into the second universe where there would be no temptation to rebel against the Godhead.
Since time is not a factor in the eternal realm in which the Godhead exists, they knew that the first stage would not be rushed because the process of creating the first universe would take place over an unknown number of earth years.
“And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree.” (Isaiah 34:4)
“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.” (2 Peter 3:10-13)
“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.” (Revelation 21:1)
The Godhead did not want any surprises and utilized a huge design center where they could conceive universes, but also a massive computer system capable of running virtual time-runs of any project.
The first new universe was designed with angels and humans. The data on the created beings was inserted in the computer along with the universe design and then the Godhead started a virtual time run.
They paused the virtual time run when they saw Lucifer’s rebellion and heard the cherub state that he was going to dethrone them and take over the creation.
“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.” (Isaiah 14:12-14)
They decided to let it play out and used Michael the archangel and his armed forces to put down the rebellion. Lucifer and his fallen angels were arrested, tried in court, and sentenced to the Lake of Fire.
Lucifer appealed his sentence and questioned how a loving God could cruelly sentence angels to the Lake of Fire to be tormented for eternity.
Satan had planted a doubt in the holy angels that remained loyal, and unless this doubt was properly addressed, they would carry this uncertainty forever.
The only way to prove the Godhead’s righteousness was to create another set of beings with a free will and allow Lucifer to tempt the humans.
The Godhead decided to have this vindication played out on Earth, the former planet Lucifer ruled as regent, and allow him free access to Adam and Eve. The planet was refurbished and the humans were deposited in a lush garden.
Adam and Eve were ignorant of the time before their existence so that Lucifer could not accuse God of cheating. They would only know that they existed and their point of contact was Jesus.
“And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.” (Genesis 3:8)
Adam and Eve would be allowed to live in the garden for more than a day – more than a thousand years – enjoy having children and live a pleasant life without sickness, disease, and death.
One tree was planted in the midst of the garden – the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil – and this would be the medium used by Lucifer to tempt them into sin. Adam was told by Jesus that eating from that particular tree would result in death.
TIME BEFORE ADAM AND EVE
There are three passages in the Bible that gives us information about events taking place before the refurbishment of the earth and the creation of Adam and Eve.
Jesus revealed that war erupted in heaven with Lucifer’s rebellion. The rebellious cherub was defeated and cast out of heaven to the earth with his followers.
“And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.” (Revelation 12:7-10)
Isaiah and Ezekiel were both given revelations about events that took place on earth before Adam; they point to a time prior to mankind’s presence on earth.
We do not know how long the physical universe existed before Lucifer decided to dethrone God and take His place. This trusted cherub had access to the throne room of God and led the other angels in worship of their Creator. Ultimately, he lost his position, his access to the throne room, his authority, and his holiness. What was sacred became profane through rebellion and he was expelled from heaven.
“Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.
By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.” (Ezekiel 28:14-16)
Lucifer was originally exalted and radiant, but he fell through pride and rebellion because he sought equality with God and was cast down to the earth. He operates through deception and destruction and will ultimately be exposed, judged, and humiliated.
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;
That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?
All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house.
But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet.
Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned.
Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities. (Isaiah 14:12-21)
THE TRIAL OF LUCIFER
The Bible does not explicitly state there was a trial for Lucifer and the other fallen angels, but Jesus did say the Lake of Fire was specially prepared for them.
“Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.” (Matthew 25:41)
Scripture does not specifically state Lucifer was judged and found guilty, but the implication is there in Jesus’ words. Why would God cast an innocent angel into the Lake of Fire? There must be a cause and the deduction is that there was a trial for Satan and his minions.
Okay, so they are guilty, but why are they still present and able to inflict mayhem?
Simply put, God is proving His righteousness – not to humanity – but to the angels He created.
“But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.” (Romans 3:21-26)
If you have ever questioned your existence, now you know why – you were created to prove God’s righteousness.
Humanity was created to prove that God is righteous.
REPLENISH THE EARTH
Now that we have a full biblical understanding of the refurbishment and the creation of Adam and Eve, let’s establish one more fact. Jesus commissioned Adam and Eve to be fruitful on the sixth day. They were told to replenish the earth, indicating something had occurred prior to this command that necessitated their action.
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. (Genesis 1:28)
The same Hebrew word is used after Noah’s flood.
“And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.” (Genesis 9:1)
Notice that Lucifer was not allowed to enter the Garden and tempt Eve until after the seventh day of rest.
Remember, it’s not so important how you begin your life after salvation, but how you finish it!
Do you have an ear to hear with?
