THE ATTITUDE LAWS OF JESUS
PART 1: WHERE TRANSFORMATION BEGINS

THE KINGDOM OF GOD
When Jesus walked on earth after His incarnation, He revealed the Kingdom of God and set forth the laws of the kingdom. To become a citizen of this kingdom, Jews and Gentiles alike must accept Jesus as the Messiah.
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)
“Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:12-14)
The Son of God did far more than perform miracles, teach parables, and confront religious hypocrisy. He unveiled the character of the Kingdom of God through the attitudes that accurately mark the life of true disciples.
Before the cross, Jesus laid down “attitude laws,” not as burdensome rules, but God the Father’s expectations for every Spirit-filled believer. These commands strike deeper than outward conduct; they touch motives, thought patterns, and the unseen soul. They describe not only how you should act, but what you must become.
These attitude laws are impossible to obey through fleshly determination alone. You can imitate morality for a time, but only the indwelling Holy Spirit can produce sustained love, humility, forgiveness, purity, and the other virtues Jesus demands.
The soul resists these commands; whereas, the born-again spirit embraces them. Jesus did not announce these laws to frustrate you, but to reveal the kind of life the Holy Spirit empowers you to live. The Son of God painted a vivid picture of a kingdom citizen transformed from within by divine power.
Each of these laws reflects Jesus’ own character. He loved without condition, served without pride, forgave without limit, and walked in purity. He sought reconciliation, extended mercy, blessed His persecutors, submitted His will to the Father, and gave Himself generously – even unto death.
As you study these laws, you are not merely examining ethical principles, but gaining insight into the character of God. To obey them is to reflect Him. To walk in them is to have fellowship with Him. To grow in them is to be conformed to His image.
These attitude laws essentially form a spiritual blueprint for the Christian life:
• Love God fully
• Seek purity of heart
• Walk in meekness
• Choose forgiveness
• Practice generous compassion
• Prioritize the kingdom above all else
• Lead others through humble service
The aim of this series is not to gain information, but to seek transformation. Invite the Holy Spirit to renew your mind, soften your heart, and galvanize your obedience. The attitude laws of Jesus are living realities for every believer who yields to the Holy Spirit’s work.
It is my hope that you will draw closer to Christ, deepen your reliance upon the Holy Spirit, and awaken a longing to enjoy the abundant life promised by Jesus as citizens of the Kingdom of God!
WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Every journey of discipleship begins in the soul. The Kingdom of God is not built on outward obedience, religious activity, or visible achievement. It begins with attitudes that only the Holy Spirit can produce in a life that is surrendered to Christ. Jesus knew that unless your soul is transformed, no lasting change can take place on the outside. Therefore, He began by addressing the most foundational matters of the soul.
The first five attitude laws form the bedrock of Christian character. They are the essential ingredients of genuine discipleship, the inner qualities that shape every other spiritual virtue because they strike at the root of your motives, desires, reactions, and secret thoughts. These laws cannot be fulfilled through self-discipline, but require the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit to write God’s expectations upon your soul, and most importantly, empower you to obey them.
Jesus invites you to let the Holy Spirit examine, refine, and reshape you into His likeness. The transformation He seeks is not cosmetic, but internal. Before you can display Christ to the world, Christ must be formed within you. This message is a call to quiet surrender, honest reflection, and Spirit-led renewal. It is the beginning of your journey toward becoming a shining example of what it means to be a citizen in the Kingdom of God.
THE LAW OF LOVE
Jesus declared love to be the greatest command. It is represented by total devotion toward God and sacrificial concern for people. This unconditional love is not sentiment, but action. It is the basis for the atmosphere of the Kingdom of God and the fountain from which all other attitude laws flow.
“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” (Matthew 22:37-39)
Examine the hidden loyalties of your soul. Refuse partial obedience to God because He deserves your whole being. Ask the Holy Spirit to enlarge your capacity to love difficult people. A Spirit-filled believer becomes a living vessel of God’s love.
THE LAW OF HUMILITY
Jesus inverted worldly values by stating that the greatest position is the lowliest – the servant. Pride exalts only yourself; whereas, humility exalts Christ. The kingdom leadership espoused by Jesus flows downward into the lives of others.
“Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.
But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.” (Matthew 23:10-12)
This means taking the lowest seat, serving without seeking credit, and letting the gentleness and lowliness of Jesus form in you. God elevates the humble and resists the proud.
THE LAW OF FORGIVENESS
Jesus’ “seventy times seven” reveals that forgiveness must be a lifestyle. Unforgiveness imprisons your soul, but grace releases both the offender and the offended.
“Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?
Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.” (Matthew 18:21-22)
Identify unresolved bitterness, release the debt, and leave justice in God’s hands. Ask the Holy Spirit to soften what you cannot change. A forgiven heart becomes a forgiving heart.
THE LAW OF RECONCILIATION
Jesus taught that reconciliation is so vital that it interrupts worship. Your peace with others affects your fellowship with God.
“But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.” (Matthew 5:22-24)
Make the first move toward restoration, admit wrongs quickly, and value unity more than pride. Reconciliation is reflected in the character of God who pursued you first.
THE LAW OF KINGDOM PRIORITY
Jesus exposes the root of sin as lustful thoughts and motives. Holiness is not merely avoiding acts of sin, but cultivating a clean heart (soul) before God.
“Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” (Matthew 5:27-28)
This means that you need to guard your eyes, ears, and imagination. Replace impure thoughts with Scripture. Invite the Holy Spirit to filter hidden motives because purity is His sovereign work in producing a clean conscience.
CONCLUSION
The first five attitude laws (love, humility, forgiveness, reconciliation, and purity of heart) declare that discipleship begins where no human eye can see. Jesus starts His kingdom training in the soul.
These attitudes cannot be manufactured by discipline or self-effort; they are only produced as you yield to the Holy Spirit’s transforming power. When the Holy Spirit reshapes your heart, outward obedience becomes the natural overflow.
As you embrace these foundational laws, you are allowing Jesus to rebuild your inner life according to His likeness. With your soul aligned to Christ, you are prepared to live out these attitudes in the world around you.
These attitude laws are not a checklist of moral improvement, but the fruit of a Spirit-filled life.
What Jesus commands, the Holy Spirit empowers.
As you walk in the Holy Spirit, kingdom attitudes become kingdom realities.
Remember, it’s not so important how you begin your life after salvation, but how you finish it!
