THE RESCUE PLAN

PART 2: THE STORY OF SALVATION

MESSIANIC PROPHECY
The apostle Paul declared that the Messiah came to be made a curse for humanity under the Mosaic law and to make atonement on our behalf.

“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: (Galatians 3:13)

This was the fulfilment of the promise made to Abraham thousands of years earlier.

“That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” (Galatians 3:14)

Jesus promised Abraham that the world would be blessed because of his offspring.

“Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” (Genesis 12:1- 3)

This promise does not refer to the nation of Israel; Paul makes it crystal clear that Jesus was the fulfillment of that pledge.

“Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.” (Galatians 3:16)

The Mosaic law served as a teacher to guide mankind toward the future Messiah.

“Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.” (Galatians 3:24)

CHRIST DYING FOR US
In the end, salvation is entirely a work of the Godhead. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit came up with the idea and brought it into existence. The only thing mankind can do is accept or reject the salvation offered. It is a free gift. Those who accept it have nothing to brag about since Jesus did everything.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

The apostle Paul was determined to share the significance of Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross by shedding light on our depravity.

“But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;

Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 3:21-24)

God the Father loved humanity so much that He sent Jesus to die for us. Keep in mind that this was when we did not deserve such grace; nevertheless, it was done to show the value we have in God’s eyes.

“For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:6-8)

RESULT OF SIN
Adam’s choice to eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil plunged mankind into sin. In contrast, there is life in Christ, and His obedience to carry out the salvation plan makes righteousness possible for us when we repent.

“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.” (Romans 5:12, 15, 19)

Paul makes it very clear that death is the result of sin, but the flipside is eternal life through the Godhead’s redeemer.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

Jesus lived on the earth for more than three decades as a man and He was tempted in all ways like us with the distinction that He did not sin even once.

“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:15-16)

Most people think of themselves as good, but God says humanity is sinful. We need to be honest and confess our shortcomings

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:8-9)

Sin is not hurtful because it’s forbidden; rather, God hates sin because it’s hurtful and leads to death. The process starts with temptation, leads to sin, and when sin is finished, death takes over. Actions have consequences. The good news is there is no condemnation with God; grace abounds as long as you’re alive.

FAITH IN JESUS
So how does faith in Jesus play out? Anyone willing to own up to their sins and call upon God for salvation (i.e. redemption, eternal life, deliverance, grace, justification, or just plain help), will receive it.

“But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:8-13)

The salvation offered by God is predicated upon the concept of faith. Faith is employed on a daily basis when you sit on a chair, flick on a light switch, twist the water faucet, and put your key in the ignition of your vehicle. You expect the chair to support you, the light to turn on, water to come from the faucet, and the car to start.

The Bible says that “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”1

It means putting your trust completely in God. Jesus understands exactly what He is asking and will reward you accordingly when you seek Him.

God won’t look down upon you because of your past and no sin is too big. You don’t have to be in church; the Holy Spirit will meet you wherever you are.
Christianity not about being religious. It is about having a personal relationship with your Creator. Salvation is not based upon feelings, but through your profession of faith.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.” (Ephesians 2:8)

1 Hebrews 11:6

Remember, it’s not so important how you begin your life after salvation, but how you finish it!
