THE ABOMINATIONS
When Jesus supernaturally took Ezekiel to the temple in Jerusalem in 591 B.C., the prophet witnessed the worship of Lucifer (Kabbalah), weeping for Tammuz, and the worship of the sun. Ezekiel 8:10-16
SUN WORSHIP
Sun worship dates back to Egypt and it is estimated that worship of the sun became common around 2575-2465 B.C. The Egyptians called the sun god Ra. The teaching was that he rose from the ocean of chaos on the primeval hill, creating himself and eight other gods.1
The worship of Ra was in full swing when Moses was born around 1520 B.C. Some of the Hebrews adopted the Kabbalah, while others embraced Ra, and both of these belief systems would carry forward into the future.
Why was the worship of Ra more abominable than the worship of Tammuz and Lucifer? Ra created himself and then produced eight other gods. His followers likened him equal to God.
Worship of the sun spread to Syria and to the Roman Empire by the second century after the death of Jesus. The deity was renamed Sol Invictus and later he became known simply as Sol. Emperor Aurelian established the worship of Sol Invictus as the state religion on December 25, 274 A.D.2
It is interesting that Emperor Constantine I was the one that abolished the worship of the sun in 325 A.D. and replaced it with Christianity. He and the church leaders also set the birth of Jesus to December 25th, which coincided with the birthday of Tammuz and was also the highest day of worship of the sun god.
The pagan custom of worshiping the sun was incorporated into the Roman state church with an Easter sunrise service to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus.
THE GODHEAD WAS NOT AMUSED
The Godhead was furious with these abominations. Ezekiel 8:17-18
The eyes of Ezekiel were opened to the spirit world and it was not a pretty picture.
Ezekiel 9:1
These were not men who were summoned by Jesus; they were angels who had been stationed in Jerusalem. verses 2-3
The angel with the inkhorn was ordered back into the city to mark the godly prayer warriors on their foreheads. verse 4
Then the five angels are ordered to kill every man, woman and child without a mark on their forehead. verses 5-11
This action will be repeated during the time of the Antichrist. Revelation 7:1-3
THE SLAUGHTER
The event that Ezekiel saw in the spirit world in 591 B.C. was carried out in 587 B.C. when the Babylonians broke through the walls of Jerusalem and slaughtered the inhabitants. It is important to note that the massacre started at the house of the Lord. Ezekiel 9:4-7; 2 Kings 25:1-4, 9-11; 2 Chronicles 36:17-20
Ezekiel cried out to the Lord and asked if anyone would be spared? Ezekiel 9:8-11
PROPHECY AGAINST ZEDEKIAH
The Godhead knew about King Zedekiah of Judah and told Ezekiel in advance what would happen to him in the future. Ezekiel 12:8-16; 2 Kings 25:2-7
THE WOMEN IN JERUSALEM
There was a scarcity of food in Jerusalem during the Babylonian siege. Ezekiel indicates there were sexual activities taking place by mentioning that these women were in the business of making pillows for comfort. Some of the women became false prophetesses, and in conjunction with their divinations, they invited men to have intercourse with them.
The women did not ask for gold or silver coins, but took barley and bread as payment. They claimed to speak for God, but they were nothing more than fortune tellers and Jesus had a harsh judgment in store for these lewd women. Ezekiel 13:17-23; Proverbs 6:20-27
A STRONG WARNING
Jesus invoked the names of Noah, Daniel and Job and stated that even if these righteous men returned from the dead, the people of Judah and the land would still be judged for the evil being perpetrated. Ezekiel 14:12-21
Nevertheless, a remnant would be mercifully saved to fulfill prophecy. verses 22-23
SUMMARY
Satan was preying on the sinful nature of humanity. The Judeans were being taken in by Lucifer and the foul bill of goods he sold to them.
In contrast, the Godhead offered peace, joy, happiness, prosperity and eternal life in heaven, but the people were not interested in that program.
Lucifer’s program of adultery, fornication, homosexuality, pedophilia, child sacrifice, drunkenness, and a life of worshiping idols appealed to the people of Judah.
Their rejection of God caused the Godhead to kill the sinners and start over with a remnant.
Remember, it’s not so important how you begin your life after salvation, but how you finish it!
