DEALING WITH JEZEBEL
Jehu rode into Jezreel with his chariot to find the people stirred up. The captain of Israel’s army had just killed King Jehoram of Israel and King Ahaziah of Judah and it was obvious that he was coming for Jezebel.
Jezebel painted herself as a priestess of Baal to impress and frighten Jehu. When he saw her in the palace window, he told two eunuchs to throw her down to the ground. The impact on the ground was so forceful that Jezebel’s blood sprinkled the wall and the horses and Jehu rode over her body. He then entered the palace and ordered dinner to be served.
When the meal was over, Jehu told the people to bury Jezebel. They were horrified to learn that the dogs had feasted on her body; only her skull, hands, and feet remained in fulfilment of Elijah’s prophecy. 2 Kings 9:30-37
CLEANING HOUSE
King Ahab had 70 sons who lived in the city of Samaria. They were all summarily killed and then Jehu ordered the execution of all people associated with Ahab, including family, Baal priests, political leaders. This massacre also included the wives and children of the men killed. The house of Ahab was effectively removed from the earth and sent to hell. 2 Kings 10:1-11
THE OTHER AHAZIAH
King Joram of Israel and King Ahaziah of Judah had developed a friendship. Baal worship had spread down to the southern kingdom. The brothers of Ahaziah did not know he had been killed as they had traveled north to meet with Joram and Jezebel. Unfortunately, they met Jehu and his soldiers on the road, and when Jehu found out who they were, he ordered all 42 brothers executed on the spot. 2 Kings 10:12-14
CLEANING HOUSE IN SAMARIA
Jehu knew he had to destroy the people in Samaria who were loyal to Ahab in order to establish his kingship. On his way there, he happened to meet a prominent Kenite named Jehonadab, and once Jehu established that he stood with him in assassinating Ahab’s family and friends, Jehonadab became an officer in Jehu’s armed forces and together they rode into Samaria and started the purge. verses 15-17
A WORK OF DECEPTION
Lying is never acceptable to God; it is a practice from Lucifer and this is how the Devil was able to compromise Jehu and contaminate him. John 8:44; Revelation 21:27; 22:15
Jehu wanted to identify and kill all Baal worshipers in Israel. Using deception, he made a proclamation that he was going to be an even more ardent worshiper of Baal than Ahab had ever been. He sent messengers throughout Israel and told people that they would be hunted and murdered if they failed to show up for this great sacrifice in Samaria.
As a result, all the Baal priests and adherents of the demon god showed up to worship. Once they had all gathered, Jehu and Jehonadab interviewed the people under the pretense that they were seeking to evict men who served the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The Baal people believed that Jehu wanted to kill the worshipers of God, but what he really wanted to do was make sure that none of God’s people were mixed with the Baal worshipers.
Once Jehu ensured that everything was ready, he gave the order to begin sacrificing and worship of Baal. In the meantime, eighty soldiers moved in to kill the people serving Baal without mercy. The special forces men were told that their lives would be forfeit if any Baal worshipers escaped. 2 Kings 10:18-28
SATAN BLINDED JEHU
For some reason, Jehu became enthralled with the golden calves set up by King Jeroboam in Bethel and Dan and he too became contaminated with idol worship. Even though God spoke to him, he was taken over by Lucifer and died as an idol worshiper. Jehu started with God and ended his life serving Satan. verses 29-36
SUMMARY
God promotes love and patience with those who serve Him. The flipside is justice and wrath for those who rebel and choose to serve Lucifer.
• When Korah and his followers rebelled against God, thousands of people were killed in a split second. Numbers 16:27-35
• Ananias and Sapphira lied to the Holy Spirit and were killed afterwards for their sin. Acts 5:1-10
God is good, but when a person, or even a nation, pushes God too far, judgment always follows. Don’t mock God and make light of His commandments. Galatians 6:7-8
Remember, it’s not so important how you begin your life after salvation, but how you finish it!
