SAUL’S FREE WILL
The last image of the virtual time run showed Samuel, King Saul, and the Israelites at Gilgal. The Godhead realized that Lucifer would introduce dirty politics, tribal rivalry, and change Saul into a power hungry man who would jealously not hesitate to murder those he felt was a threat to his position.

As a result, they examined the Hebrew population and found a young teenager named David that could replace Saul if he walked away from the Lord. Saul had a free will and the Godhead would continue the virtual time run to find out how Saul would act in the future.

SAMUEL’S FAREWELL SPEECH
With all the people gathered at Gilgal, Samuel used the occasion to describe the manner in which he had lived as a judge. He had never accepted a bribe or taken advantage of his office. 1 Samuel 12:1-5

Samuel was not shy in reminding the people about their great wickedness in demanding a king and called upon the Lord to display supernatural power. verses 13-18

The people cried out for mercy and Samuel gave them a stern warning. Samuel was not cynical and fed up with the Hebrews and stated that he would not sin against the Lord by not praying for them. verses 19-25

WALKING IN HIS OWN STRENGTH
When Saul was crowned king by Samuel, he was a simple and humble man who worked on the family farm. He was married and had children. He lived under poor conditions since his family was one of the least in the tribe of Benjamin.

God gave Saul a great victory in his first battle with the Ammonites. Two years later he was transitioning from a simple farmer to a warring king and who had amassed a small standing army of 3,000 men. He had given his son, Jonathan, 1,000 men, while he kept 2000 men under his personal command.

King Saul controlled the town of Michmash in the land of Benjamin which was in the area of Mount Bethel. There was a major road going through Michmash toward the city of Jerusalem.

Jonathan was stationed in the city of Gibeah three miles north of Jerusalem. The Philistines had built a fortification at the small city of Geba 2.5 miles further north. This garrison in Geba allowed the Philistines to restrict the movement of King Saul and his troops. It was like a dagger in the heartland of Israel. Jonathan decided to attack the Philistine garrison and the news emboldened Saul, who rallied the Israelites to clear the land of the Philistines.

The Philistines sent a vastly superior force of 30,000 chariots, 6,000 horsemen and a large infantry force. The Hebrew men melted at the sight of such a large army and Saul was holed up in Gilgal. Samuel told Saul to wait for seven days and then he would lead the worship and sacrifice to the Lord.

Undoubtedly tensions were mounting and Saul decided that he could not wait any longer as the Philistines were probing his lines and this is why he ordered the priests to begin sacrificing without Samuel. 1 Samuel 13:3-9

REJECTED BY GOD
As the Godhead watched the virtual time run, they realized that Saul had no faith in them; he was unstable and the decision was made to reject him as king of Israel. verses 10-14

In order to preserve Israel, the Godhead intervened and used Jonathan to fight off the Philistines. 1 Samuel 14:6-14

Jesus got involved with holy angels and the Philistines starting killing each other. A number of Hebrew soldiers hired by the Philistines turned on their masters and the power of the Philistines was broken. verses 15-35

A SECOND CHANCE
Jesus told Samuel that the Amalekites were to be eradicated. This nomadic tribe lived in the desert south of Israel. Eliphaz, the founder, was the grandson of Esau. They hated the Hebrews and attacked them after the exodus from Egypt. 1 Samuel 15:1-3

Saul mustered an army of 200,000 men and 10,000 from the tribe of Judah. He warned the Kenites to stay out of the way since they had a treaty with Israel. Then Saul ordered the attack upon the Amalekites and defeated them. verses 4-7

Lucifer saw his chance and influenced Saul to disobey the Lord by not completely carrying out the instructions of Jesus. verses 9

Saul was confronted and he argued with Samuel instead of repenting and seeking forgiveness. The end result was that Samuel told Saul that God had rejected him as king. verses 10-29

A NEW KING
The Godhead is not sentimental; the first king of Israel was relegated to the trash heap of history and Jesus asked Samuel how long he was going to mourn for Saul.
1 Samuel 16:1

Remember, it’s not so important how you begin your life after salvation, but how you finish it!
