THE ORIGIN STORY OF JESUS

PART 35: THE BATTLE FOR DAVID’S SOUL

RLJ-1824

JOHN S. TORELL

SEPTEMBER 5, 2021

GRUESOME ENDING
The last image of the virtual time run showed the headless corpse of King Saul nailed to a Philistine city wall. The Godhead had seen Lucifer gleefully watching King Saul and his three sons die in battle with the Philistines. The Devil knew that the nation of Israel was on the verge of being destroyed. He also realized that he had damaged the plan for a Redeemer. 1 Samuel 31:8-13

The Godhead knew they had a problem with David. Lucifer had been able to place demons in him that made him a liar and murderer. David had gotten tired of running from Saul and took his small army of 600 men and sought refuge among the Philistines. Hiding among the enemy of God, he lied and became a cold-blooded murderer.  1 Samuel 27:1-12

The Godhead also knew that David was prone to lust after women. He kept adding women to his growing harem. 2 Samuel 5:13

David was touched by the Holy Spirit when he was young. His response to the Holy Spirit was the reason he was chosen to replace King Saul. 1 Samuel 13:14

The only way that the Godhead could control David was through the convicting power of the Holy Spirit. Psalm 51:1-17

As the Godhead talked among themselves, they realized that Lucifer would try to destroy David, break up Israel, and scatter the twelve tribes. It was decided that the Holy Spirit would intervene when needed to convict David and bring him to repentance.

POLITICS AND TREASON
David asked the Lord if he was to return to Judah after the death of Saul. He was told to go to Hebron, where he was swiftly pronounced King of Judah. 2 Samuel 2:1-4

The captain of Saul’s army found Saul’s son, Ishbosheth, and brought him to the city of Mahanaim, where Ishbosheth was declared the new king of Israel. verses 8-10

Abner was the real political and military power behind King Ishbosheth and took one of Saul’s concubines for himself. When Ishbosheth chided Abner for this action, he got angry and showed his true colors. 2 Samuel 3:6-11

Abner was livid and betrayed Ishbosheth and proposed an alliance with David, who agreed to make peace with Abner. verses 12-21

The captain of David’s army tricked Abner and murdered him. verses 23-27

Instead of thanking Joab for protecting his kingdom, David showed his displeasure by walking in the funeral procession for Abner. This was also a political ploy since David did not want to have this murder pinned on him. verses 28-37

Two of King Ishbosheth’s captains went to the house of the king, cut off his head, and fled with it to call upon David in Hebron. 2 Samuel 4:1-2, 5-8

Instead of thanking them for removing the competition, David ordered these two men to be killed on the spot. verses 9-12

A PACT WITH THE DEVIL
The Phoenician kingdom with its capital of Tyre was located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. It was known as Lebanon and also as the land of the Zidonians.

King Hiram worshiped Baal with human sacrifices that included children that were passed through the fire. Deuteronomy 18:9-10

David and the Hiram started to cooperate and became friends. 2 Samuel 5:11

The curse of this relationship would continue on with Solomon. 1 Kings 5:1-8

Later on, the ruler of Tyre was King Ethbaal. He was the father of the wicked Queen Jezebel, the wife of the King Ahab. 1 Kings 16:30-33

Some 280 years later, God revealed that Lucifer had built his throne over the city of Tyre. Ezekiel 28:1-6

DAVID’S FLAW
David realized that God had established him as the King of Israel. 2 Samuel 5:12

He responded by adding more women to his harem. Scores of children were born, creating further tension on his home front. verse 13

LUST LEADS TO MURDER
Lucifer ruled David by the spirit of lust, and when he saw a gorgeous naked woman taking a bath from his rooftop, he became wild with lust and was determined to get her into his bed. It did not faze him in the slightest that she was married to one of his best officers in the army. 2 Samuel 11:27

The Godhead could not let this transgression pass and intervened through the prophet Nathan. 2 Samuel 12:1-15

A HORRIBLE MASSACRE
After David repented of the adultery and murder, he took charge of his army and attacked the Ammonites.1 Once his army took the city of Rabbah, they rounded up all the men, women and children and marched them off to be killed. It must have taken months to kill all these people with saws, iron harrows, axes, and burning them in brick kilns.

SUMMARY
The Godhead looked with disgust at the acres upon acres of the land in Ammon littered with the dead bodies of the old and young. They realized that the sinful nature was being exploited to the max by Lucifer and his minions. As holy angels swept over the killing fields to pick up the souls of the dead and take them to hell, the Godhead knew that Lucifer was intent on doing whatever he could to ensure that God’s Redeemer would not arrive in the future.

King David and the Israelites were not nice people; they were rebellious, stubborn and bent on sinning. Isaiah 30:9-14

Nevertheless, the Godhead was determined usher in the Redeemer through the lives of flawed people. They could not help but wonder what humanity would do once the Redeemer arrived?

1. Ben-ammi was the son of the youngest daughter of Lot, who committed incest with her father. Genesis 19:38

Remember, it’s not so important how you begin your life after salvation, but how you finish it!
